Picture Books

I first illustrated and published this story in 1982. I created new illustrations for it in 2001 and illustrated it for a third time, in a somewhat different style, in 2013.

It is a story about perseverance and determination. In the background, perhaps, is my father, who wanted me to play the violin.

About 40 years ago, near Şile, I tried to rescue a young goat from a hillside. It was bleating so pitifully that I thought, “It clearly can’t get down from there.” So I climbed up and picked it up. On the way down, I slipped on a rock and sprained my ankle.

It wasn’t serious enough to require a trip to the hospital—perhaps it was, but I didn’t go! In any case, I spent a few days with a foot swollen like a drum. That’s how the story came about.

This book grew out of a comic strip I created for Bando Children’s Magazine in the 1980s.

The idea of “art” is difficult to explain. Perhaps art is more than a concept to be explained: it speaks for itself simply by being there.

Supermoo was a cow just like any other cow…

Like every cow, she grazed, went to school, read books, watched the world around her and tried to learn more every day.

But then, one day, something unexpected happened…

The animals in the forest are bored, so they decide to form an orchestra and give a concert. But each of them is different. How will they learn to play together in harmony?

The two siblings could have spent a rainy day watching the world through their window, but they wanted to go to the park instead.

When the weather turned far worse than expected, they found themselves in danger of being swept away by a flood. Together, they discovered that nature has a serious side that is no laughing matter.
